Flamenco legend in concert, Ramelton Town Hall, Sat 28th 5.30pm

One of the world’s top flamenco guitarists will perform an hour-long concert in Ramelton on Saturday evening (28th Sept) as part of this year’s Django Sur Lennon festival weekend.

Juan Martin will give a solo recital in Ramelton Town Hall at 5.30pm.

He was once voted one of the top three guitarists in the world in the magazine Guitar Player USA. He has had a stellar career, playing on stage with Miles Davis and recording with Herbie Hancock.

Juan also recorded with Rory Gallagher and had a top 10 hit with the ‘Love Theme from The Thorn Birds’ in the 1980s.

One of his first recordings was ‘Picasso Portraits’ (1981), which was based on the music he played at Pablo Picasso’s 90th birthday celebrations.

Juan, who now divides his time between Malaga and London, had a successful collaboration recently with the Donegal Chamber Orchestra, with a memorable concert in the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny in May.

Donal Casey of the Django Sur Lennon festival said they were delighted to have Juan on the programme.

“He’s a legendary figure in guitar circles and it’s great to have flamenco represented during our gypsy jazz weekend,” he said.

Admission on Saturday is €15 at the door.
