Choral Music Education (CME) Training Programme

A number of our choral directors – Sara, Evan and Triona – participated in a CME Institute Choral Training Programme during the 2013/14 academic year, culminating in the Big Sing performance, April 2014, in the Mansion House, Dublin.  Members of our Youth and Junior Choirs participated in this wonderful performance joining other choristers from around the country.

The Choral Music Education (CME) Institute is based in the United States and led by Professor Doreen Rao, an internationally renowned choral master teacher, conductor, author and editor.  It currently runs accredited choral training programmes in the United States, Canada, UK and Ireland, encouraging ongoing, long-term professional development in choral music education.

As a follow-on to the 2013/14 training, the CME Institute, in partnership with Music Generation and AOIC, is holding a residential training programme for choral directors in NUI Maynooth this summer from Tuesday 14 – Friday 17 July, and once again Sara, Evan, Triona and new addition Riana are participating.

A Young Artist Choir is brought together for the training programme who study alongside the conductors, and there are times when these young artists are in a ‘lab’ type setting working with the faculty observed by conductors, and also a live performance involving all.

We were delighted to receive an invitation for Donegal Youth Choir to be part of this Training Choir hence we have 16 young, excited choristers in NUI Maynooth from 15 – 17 July.
