Donegal Youth Orchestra

The Donegal Youth Orchestra is the largest of the DMEP ensembles and provides a great platform for students who have  progresses to intermediate and advanced levels. It is open to string, percussion, woodwind and brass players of a grade 3 standard and upwards and is designed to complement each student’s individual lesson.

The Donegal Youth Orchestra allows students to develop their playing technique along with enhancing their sight-reading ability and building confidence. It is a great place to meet other musicians, play some of the best orchestral pieces available and perform in an array of exciting and varied venues and concerts. 2011-2012 was an exciting year for the Orchestra with the premier performances of ‘The Happy Prince’, a devised piece of music theatre based on the Oscar Wilde story; a live broadcast on RTE Junior digital radio station; and a concert performance alongside the traditional group Altan.

The Donegal Youth Orchestra is conducted by Vincent Kennedy and meets bi-weekly, during term time, in Letterkenny on Friday evenings, 6.30pm-9pm. Transport is provided from Donegal Town.
