Donegal Junior Strings Orchestra – sounding great!

The Donegal Junior Strings Orchestra under conductor Victor Yélamo ended 2018-19 on a high with a one-day tour of primary schools in north Donegal.

The DJS got a great reception wherever they went – including Buncrana, Dromoghill, Raphoe and Letterkenny – and hopefully inspired some young people to take up music.

This orchestra features young string players aged 7 – 14 getting their music tuition with the DMEP mainly in Letterkenny and Donegal Town. All new members welcome. Contact the office for details – 07491 76293 or musiceducation@donegaletb.ie (or send a message on Facebook).

MUSIC IN THE SUN – Victor Yélamo and the Donegal Junior Strings Orchestra make the most of the good weather with an outdoor performance at Faugher NS Portnablagh in June 2018.

Here’s the official line on the orchestra –

The Donegal Junior Strings Orchestra aims to complement the weekly individual instrumental lessons provided by the Donegal Music Education Partnership.  It motivates beginners to work as a team, improve sight-reading and ensemble skills, build confidence and develop social skills.  It trains and prepares string players for progression into more advanced ensemble groups within the DMEP.

The orchestra is led by cello tutor Víctor Yélamo and open to all Violin, Viola, Cello & Double Bass players aged from 7 – 14 years. There are rehearsals in Donegal Town, for orchestra members in that area, and also in Letterkenny.

Well done Victor and all the orchestra members for all the work and the fine performances during the year!

If you’d like to join the orchestra, here’s a form (it’s for last year but we’ll update it!) –
