JoinĀ the Donegal Youth Orchestra! Simple as that šŸ™‚

If we liked the term, we’d describe it as a ‘no brainer’ – a brilliant opportunity to develop your musical skills, perform in a big ensemble, make new friends and travel the world (well, the Irish bit at least). You’ll be performing with other young musicians under the direction of the well-known conductor and composer Vincent Kennedy.

Vincent’s personality helps to ensure that it’s professional but also friendly and welcoming. The DYO’s special colleagueĀ is Mary Armitage, who’s been involved with classical music in Donegal for some years now. She isĀ another friendly face helping out at rehearsals at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny every fortnight, Fridays 6.30pm – 9pm.

You’ll need to be of at least Grade 3 standard in string, percussion, woodwind or brass (one instrument will do). The DYO repertoire includes well-known classical works, contemporary pieces, Irish pieces, film scores and more. Last year there were more than sixty young musicians signed up with the DYO from across Donegal. There’s a bus to rehearsals from Donegal Town, passing through the Twin Towns.

In 2017-2018 the DYO is travelling abroad – yes, that trip to Arranmore Island is on Sunday 10th September 2017. We had a great time there last year and once again the DYO will perform with the Arranmore Pipe Band (if the pipe major gets back from Russia on time). Then on Saturday 11th February the DYO is off to the National Concert Hall in Dublin for the annual concert of the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras, no less.

Enrol now! Here’s theĀ form
