May is Music Month!

If it worked last year, why change? (not a line you’re likely to see in any MBA manual).

Yes, 2017 is the same but different. May is Music Month!, with a clatter of concerts, lots happening. Here are some details –

 

this Thurs (11th), 7pmStudent concert in St Patrick’s Centre in Donegal Town with special guests Mind Your Quavers. Thanks to Evan McGarrigle for his work on this.

Friday week (19th), 8pm‘Soiree at the Castle’. Glenveagh Castle. Saxtet, opera singer Ann Jennings and the Donegal Youth Choir under conductor Sara Laughlin. Tickets from An Grianan, €15 includes bus to castle at 7.30pm, tea/coffee and tasty treats to begin!

Sunday 21st May, 7pm (moved from 3pm) – Orchestra Afternoon! Balor Theatre, Ballybofey. End-of-year concert from Donegal Youth Orchestra, with special performances from the Leaving Cert brigade. Guests are Gaelscoil Adhamháin music group, fresh from the National Concert Hall (well done Sinéad!).

Donegal Youth OrchestraFriday 26th May, 8pmHallelujah! II. Ramelton Town Hall. Colmcille Gospel Choir and Errigal Singers, both conducted by Margaret McAteer, and everyone’s favourite back-to-music group Mind Your Quavers. Big crowd for this last year and a lovely night’s singing and music.

PLUS – Donegal Chamber Orchestra on tour Three opportunities to see this accomplished ensemble under Victor Yelamo – at the Playhouse in Derry (Sat 27th), the fabulous Mussenden Temple on the cliffs near Castlerock (Sun 28th) and Leitirmacaward Church of Ireland (Sat 3rd June)

And we haven’t mentioned ‘Big Sing at the Balor’, happening soon on a date to be confirmed, featuring the Donegal Youth Choir, and junior choirs from Carrick, Dungloe and Letterkenny.
