Orchestra Afternoon! Laois in town (and it’s not football)
Yes, it’s all about Laois and music this weekend.
The Laois School of Music and Music Generation Laois are bringing their orchestra for a special concert in An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny on Sunday 26th with our own Donegal Youth Orchestra (DYO).
The concert, ‘Orchestra Afternoon!’ (brilliant, eh?), starts at 3pm.
The catchline for the afternoon is ‘not one orchestra but two’. And if that isn’t enough, we can add, ‘not one composer but two’. We’ll be hearing classical favourities, pieces on Irish themes and also new works by Vincent Kennedy, conductor of the DYO, and Elaine Agnew. Both will be there to conduct their works.
Joining the Laois ensemble for Elaine’s piece will be a choral group prepared by Sarah Laughlin of Leitirmacaward and Evan McGarrigle of Carrick, two well-known Donegal choral conductors.

An added treat for the afternoon is a trad group featuring young musicians from Laois and also from Paul Harrigan’s ‘Ceol na Coille’ school in Letterkenny. And you never know,
there might even be some adult guest performers for that one (no, you’ll never guess).

You could talk about this concert for ever, but that’s what the programme is for. And you can get the programme on Sunday at An Grianan, 3pm 🙂 Tickets are €10 / €5 and a family of four €25. Book through An Grianan box office 07491 20777 or online at www.angrianan.com or just pay at the door.
