DMEP is delighted to be participating once again in Culture Night 2015

Donegal Music Education Partnership (DMEP) is delighted to be participating once again in the 10th annual Culture Night  in Letterkenny on Friday 18 September, as part of a programme of events curated by Donegal County Council’s Arts/Cultural Service.

Following our hugely successful Soundwaves 2015 summer creative music project, we are delighted to show the 5 videos made by our talented teenage musicians to accompany the songs they composed during the project – prepare to be BLOWN AWAY ! (see videos here).  Also included are the two videos created during the John Lennon Education Bus Tour’s visit to Bundoran and Derrybeg in early August, again another 2 wonderful new song compositions ( see videos here).  The young musical talent in Donegal is mind-blowingly brilliant !  These videos will be shown in the Auditorium of the Regional Cultural Centre (RCC) from 6 – 10pm.

Donegal Youth Orchestra  is our longest established performing group within the DMEP portfolio of ensembles and has a membership of young musicians aged between 12 – 19 years from all around the country of Donegal.  Under the baton of conductor Vincent Kennedy, the orchestra invite you to attend their open rehearsal from 8.15 – 9pm on Culture Night in their regular rehearsal space and home, Workshop 1 & 2 within the RCC.  Expect to hear music from films including Lord of the Rings & Raiders of the Lost Ark; arrangements of Irish traditional tunes and melodies; and music from The Beatles. Regional Cultural Centre, Workshop 1 & 2, 8.15 – 9pm.

Three years ago we created a new ensemble with funding support from the EU Special Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, an adult instrumental group whose members come from varied, multi-genre musical backgrounds including those returning to playing their instruments after many years of abstinence.  Led and encouraged by violinists Irene Donnelly (DMEP Violin Tutor) and Seamus Maguire (West Ocean String Quartet;  Buttons & Bows) they have dusted off their instruments and now perform an eclectic mix of music that moves from light classical to folk and much more in between. Affectionately known as Mind Your Quavers  we are delighted to invite you to their Culture Night concert in the Main Gallery of the RCC  from 9 – 10pm on Culture Night.  Programme will include music from West Side Story, Brahms, Offenbach and traditional Irish and folk melodies.

Please note that these events are free and suitable for all the family.
