DYO and MYQ on Culture Night :-)

That’s the Donegal Youth Orchestra and Mind Your Quavers, in action here in the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny on Friday night (16th Sept) for Culture Night.

The Donegal Youth Orchestra will have an open rehearsal from 8.15pm to 9pm. Then it’s time to search the building for Mind Your Quavers, everyone’s favourite ‘back to music’ group (hint – they’re in the auditorium).

DYO conductor Vincent Kennedy, who’s travelling down from Dublin for the rehearsal, says they’re looking forward to the night.

“We’ll be playing some of our pieces from last year such as The Gael, Highland Cathedral, Hills of Donegal. Those who come along will be introduced to instruments of the orchestra. It’s always a lovely occasion.”

For Mind Your Quavers it’s all happening this week, as they’re having their first get-together of the new school year tomorrow night (Thurs 17th) in the RCC. Irene Donnelly-Tinney will be taking the lead on violin.

Irene says, “We’ve been having a great time in 1916 and we’d had good fun in concerts across the county, including Ramelton, Milford and Donegal Town. MYQ is all about getting people back playing instruments that may be gathering dust on top of wardrobes or under beds.

DMEP come and try sessons“We’d love to see some new faces again this year and it’s open to anyone who can take a tune out of an instrument.”
