It’s hello Soundwaves, farewell Fab Four!

Attention switches to Soundwaves III in Coláiste Ailigh in Letterkenny next Saturday (28th) after the success of the ‘Fab Four’ workshops at the weekend.

Around 35 musicians and singers came from right across Donegal to get tunes, songs and chat from Julie Fowlis (voice), Kris Drever (guitar/voice), Aoife Ní Bhriain (fiddle) and Padraig Rynne (concertina). The workshops took place on Sunday (22nd) at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny.

We’re still taking names for the Soundwaves III day on Saturday. It’s a day of music-making and fun and will suit anyone aged between 12 and 18 who loves music. It helps if you can sing and/or play a bit, but you don’t have to be a virtuoso!

Soundwaves III will be led by Sarah Murphy and Seamus Devenny from Wall2Wall Music in Derry. The cost for the day is just 10 euro. The project is supported by the Music Generation / Arts Council partnership.

16 young musicians and singers kicked off the Soundwaves III programme just before Christmas. We’re hoping to have a few more there on Saturday.

(TOP) Talented young fiddler and guitarist Jamesie Wray turned his hands to some conducting at the Soundwaves III day in Coláiste Ailigh on Saturday 17th December. There’s another chance to take part in Soundwaves III this Saturday (28th)

(BELOW) THE FAB FOUR – Kris Drever, Julie Fowlis, Aoife Ní Bhriain and Padraig Rynne.  Lots of positive feedback from their workshops at the RCC on Sunday, and afterwards they played a marvellous concert to a full house.

Donegal Music Education Partnership organises tuition in music and singing for almost 500 children and young people (and some adults). We have another 350 or so taking part in our performing groups. If you’re young or old, and are interested in making music, we’d like to hear from you!
