AUDITION INFORMATION
The auditions will be held in the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny on Friday 9 October at 5.30pm.
Please inform the office in advance if you are attending.

REPERTOIRE TO BE PLAYED AT THE AUDITION
1. Scales: 2-octave scale in D major and a 3-octave scale in G major.
2. A short solo work (any study or piece) or an excerpt from a solo work that shows the performers’ skills
3. Sight Reading: The sight reading will be an orchestral excerpt.

AUDITION POLICY
All auditionees shall have an equal opportunity to attain the position in the orchestra, based solely upon the quality of the audition performed.
The position of leader is not automatically renewed annually but will be reviewed at the end of the 2015 – 16 season and, based on work and commitment demonstrated, will then either be renewed or open again for auditions.
The position may be also be shared (co-leadership) as was the case in 2013-14.
Minimum age for applicants: 15

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS AND DUTIES OF THE LEADER
The role of leader is a very rewarding and responsible position that requires a genuine commitment to the Donegal Youth Orchestra and to the rehearsals. The successful candidate(s) will have the opportunity to develop his/her leadership and team-building skills as the leader of the orchestra not only leads the strings but the entire orchestra. Responsibilities and Duties include:

• Expected to attend each rehearsal. Reason of absence should be reported the day before the rehearsal to the DMEP office, or in the case of unexpected circumstances, by written letter/email again to the office explaining the reason of absence.
• Expected to arrive to the rehearsal at least 15 minutes before the actual rehearsal time
• Makes sure that all members are seated at their assigned seat at the beginning of the rehearsal.
• Begins controls and helps tuning procedure
• Helps to give out scores/parts to the members of the orchestra
• Responsible for write in bowings into the score during rehearsal and during sectional rehearsals and makes sure all the string section will write in the same bowings
• Helps with setting up the room for rehearsal (chairs, music stands, etc) and clearing up the room after the rehearsal
• Has the right to assign certain members of the orchestra to help him/her with things written above

The 100 Euros membership fee also applies to the leader of the orchestra.
