Youth Orchestra eye up the Balor

More than fifty young musicians from across Donegal, including the Finn Valley area, will take to the stage under the direction of the well-known conductor and composer from Dublin, Vincent Kennedy.
Special guests on the night will be the Gaelscoil Adhnámhain music group from Letterkenny. They recently performed in the final of the 2017 Waltons Music for Schools competition in the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
The concert has been moved to a 7pm start time because of the Donegal games.
The orchestra programme on the night will include music from the films ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Last of the Mohicans’, classics such as ‘Dance of the Tumblers’ by Rimsky-Korsahov, the Scottish bagpipe favourite ‘Highland Cathedral’ and excerpts from Vincent Kennedy’s ‘Irishmen and Irishwomen’, composed to commemorate the Easter Rising.
The concert also features solos and duets from orchestra members who are leaving this year, including Ella Doherty, Kevin Kinsella, Miobha McGinty, Ronan Friel, Alannah McGrory and Alison Edwards.
Tickets for the concert are €10 adult, €5 child and €25 for a family of four. They are available online at www.balorartscentre.com or telephone 07491 31840.
