Give your child the chance to take first steps in music!
‘So Mi!’ is a fun music group for children aged 3 – 6 years which happens in the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny. We’re trying to figure out a good time to have it. Mums and dads, any ideas? We’re thinking possibly Saturday mornings here at the Regional Culture Centre in Letterkenny.
Cost – €30 per term (six weeks), payable in advance, or at the first get-together.
Leading the activities for ‘So Mi!’ has been Ellen Quinn, a piano teacher, mum and all-round friendly person with a big interest in music and children. There are usually between seven and ten children in the group.

Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class ages
So Mi! is a series of music lessons where children enjoy music-making while learning about the rudiments of music. Classes are relaxed yet structured so that children can learn about many of the fun elements of music before they might formally learn an instrument.
- Tonal development (singing in tune)
- Pulse development (keeping time)
- Group and individual singing
- Musical games
- Ensemble activities
- Instrument identification
- Dance and movement
So MI! classes can benefit your child in many ways. It helps prepare children to take up an instrument or singing, and helps them decide on what instrument to learn. The classes also help children to socialise, make friends and to enjoy music-making – good for a lifetime!
Small Class Sizes
Classes are delivered in a supportive environment to help build confidence and self-esteem. With group sizes of around eight participants (10 for Juniors), children have the benefit of group learning yet still receive individual attention. We’ll put on additional classes if we need to.
Teaching approaches are influenced by the Kodaly and Dalcroze methods. Classes are grouped according to the child’s school class i.e. Junior Infants, Senior Infants or First Class.
