Get back to music with Mind Your Quavers :-)

Mind Your Quavers, who we like to call everyone’s favourite return to music group, is going from strength to strength in 2016 – 2017.

Numbers are up and new members are being welcomed regularly. It’s all about adults getting back to music – whether it’s picking up an instrument they may have played years ago, or because they’re taking classes.

Rehearsal schedule for the second half of the 2016 – 2017 year (all Thursday nights, 7pm to 9pm with a break for tea and a chat!) –

9th February – RCC Letterkenny

23rd February – RCC Letterkeny

After this, MYQ move to Errigal College in Letterkenny for rehearsals on the following dates – 9th March, 23rd March, 6th April, 13th April (earlier because of the Easter break), 27th April, 11th May, 25th May.

It’s about making music and having a good time. And Irene Donnelly-Tinney offers an excellent illustration at a Mind Your Quavers charity fundraising performance at Christmas.

MYQ are so fortunate in their leaders – violinists Irene Donnelly-Tinney, a DMEP tutor, and Seamus McGuire, he of Buttons and Bows and the West Ocean String Quartet. With Irene and Seamus, it’s all about enjoyable music-making. Rehearsals and performances alike are social occasions as well as musical ones.

There’s an eclectic mix of music. Can’t remember what Irene was looking for the last day when she was in – think Frank Sinatra may have been involved 🙂 There’s light classical, classic songs, folk/trad and more.

MYQ was formed with funding support from the EU Social Support Programme for Peace & Reconciliation  and sits within Donegal Music Education Partnership’s portfolio of performing groups as its adult ensemble.  The members come from varied, multi-genre musical backgrounds with many returning to playing their instruments after years of abstinence (if that’s the correct term). The cost is €100 for four terms, or €25 a term.

If you’re interested in getting back to music with MYQ, contact Martin or Aisling at the DMEP. Email or call 07491 76293. Or just turn up with your trumpet!
