Get back to music with Mind Your Quavers :-)
Mind Your Quavers, who we like to call everyone’s favourite return to music group, is going to have a great 2018 – 19 – it’s in the stars!
Five MYQ members were in Dublin recently for a week-long workshop with members of the St Agnes Summer Strings Orchestra. That finished with a memorable concert in Christ Church Cathedral, followed by a trip to Ramelton to play in front of a big crowd in the Town Hall. The St Agnes orchestra enjoyed it all so much they’re planning to do the same next year!
Mind Your Quavers are a friendly bunch and are guided on their way by two exceptional musicians, both violinists – Irene Donnelly-Tinney and Seamus McGuire. The emphasis is on getting back to playing and enjoying it.
Mind Your Quavers meet in Errigal College Letterkenny on a Thursday night, starting at 7pm. Phone us for more details, 07491 76293 or email musiceducation@donegaletb.ie
It’s about making music and having a good time. And Irene Donnelly-Tinney offers an excellent illustration at a Mind Your Quavers charity fundraising performance at Christmas.
MYQ are so fortunate in their leaders – violinists Irene Donnelly-Tinney, a DMEP tutor, and Seamus McGuire, he of Buttons and Bows and the West Ocean String Quartet. With Irene and Seamus, it’s all about enjoyable music-making. Rehearsals and performances alike are social occasions as well as musical ones.
There’s an eclectic mix of music. Can’t remember what Irene was looking for the last day when she was in – think Frank Sinatra may have been involved 🙂 There’s light classical, classic songs, folk/trad and more.
MYQ was formed with funding support from the EU Social Support Programme for Peace & Reconciliation and sits within Donegal Music Education Partnership’s portfolio of performing groups as its adult ensemble. The members come from varied, multi-genre musical backgrounds with many returning to playing their instruments after years of abstinence (if that’s the correct term). The cost is €100 for four terms, or €25 a term.
